Universities

Keep the campus honest after hours. Leave the exam hall alone.

A gate, a hostel corridor and a laboratory already have cameras. What they do not have is a shared record of who was in a building after it closed, whether a door was held, or whether a lab required a coat. Sentinel sits on those cameras so after-hours presence, a propped door or missing lab kit becomes a record. It will not watch an exam hall, and it will not name a student from a face.

On the cameras you already run

You already run two clocks on a campus. The day clock is lectures, clinics and gates that stay open. The night clock is hostels, laboratories and buildings that should be empty. When something happens after hours, the question is who was in the building and what you did. That is a camera question. An exam hall is a different question, and this page will not take it.

Sentinel sits on the cameras at pedestrian gates, hostel doors and laboratory corridors so a person in a faculty block after close, a door held on a stair, or a missing lab coat becomes a page to campus security. Where you already issue a student or staff card, that card can join the event. A face is not a card.

Student images are personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act. Retention and access stay under the institution's DPO. Facial recognition stays off on this page and in the product. A page is not a disciplinary charge. A human writes any campus-wide warning. Invigilation stays with people and paper.

What goes wrong on these sites

  1. A person in a building after it closed

Faculty blocks, laboratories and other buildings you name as closed get a line and an hour. A person who stays past both becomes an event with a still. You confirm it and page campus security.

  2. A second person through a hostel door on one badge

One granted badge and two bodies through the door is a credential that no longer matches the head count on camera. The page is that mismatch, not a named student.

  3. A door held on a hostel or a lab

Doors that should latch are watched for a hold past your threshold. The still is the proof. You do not infer who propped it.

  4. A coat or glasses the laboratory requires

Lab coats and eye protection are required items in the rooms you mark. Missing kit is the event. You do not write a story about a short visit.

  5. A visitor at a gate that should be shut

After-hours gates are zones. A person or a vehicle that stays at a closed gate past your hold is the event. You join the card when the access system will take it.

  6. A gathering past the duration you configured

A space used outside the timetable, past a count or a duration the campus set, is a loitering event. It is not a claim about who they are.

  7. Smoke or flame in a hostel or a lab

Ignition in a residence or a laboratory is a lost building. Campus security needs the frame and the clock, joined to a detector when you have one.

  8. A camera blinded at a gate or a hostel door

When the lens that would have joined a badge event goes dark, that is the alarm. It is not a prelude you wait on.

What we watch for

Security

  • A person in a faculty block, a laboratory or another building you named as closed, past the hour and the hold you set.
  • A visitor at a gate that should be shut.
  • A second person through a hostel door on one granted badge.
  • A gathering that stays past a duration or count the campus configured.
  • A camera that has been moved, covered or blinded.

Operations

  • A hostel or laboratory door held open past the threshold you set.
  • A fire door on a stair that does not return.
  • A vehicle at an after-hours gate past the dwell you named.
  • Occupancy in a hall you have drawn as a zone, when that watch is on.

HSE

  • Coats required in marked laboratories.
  • Eye protection the room requires.
  • Footwear or other kit you put on the watch for a workshop.
  • Fire or smoke in a hostel or a lab, joined to a detector when you have one.
  • A person down, where the camera can see them.

When a camera is not enough

Campus access already issues student and staff cards, door contacts and, on some gates, plates. Sentinel reads those. A badge-denied plus a person at a locked door is a verified after-hours event. One granted badge plus two bodies through the door is verified tailgating.

A face is not a card. Facial recognition stays off. Exam halls, invigilation and academic integrity are out of scope. We will not sell you a pack for them.

What happens when we see it

Person in a closed building after hours

Campus security is paged with the frame and the hour. The audit record holds the still. No face gallery.

Second person through a hostel door on one badge

A tailgating event with both facts. The desk is notified. The record does not name a student from a face.

Lab coat missing in a marked room

The laboratory supervisor is paged. It is a leading-indicator record, not a disciplinary file unless you make it one.

Door held on a hostel stair

A hold event with the still. Facilities and security see the same record. You do not infer who wedged it.

How a campus event becomes a record

You watch the building after it closes. You detect the person, the door or the missing kit. You join the card when you have one. You confirm the still. You page campus security. You keep the record. You leave the exam hall alone.

  1. 01 Watch

You name the blocks, laboratories, hostels and gates that matter after hours. Sentinel takes a frame from the cameras that already see those doors.

  2. 02 Detect

A body in a closed building, a held door or a missing lab coat becomes a candidate. The hold you set keeps a walker from becoming noise.

  3. 03 Join

If campus access will take a student or staff card, Sentinel joins that record to the event. If it will not, the still still stands on its own. A face is not a card.

  4. 04 Confirm

A reviewer on the campus desk accepts, dismisses or escalates. The model does not close the case.

  5. 05 Page

The people you named for that building get the still. You choose how loud that page is.

  6. 06 Record

The event, the still, the card join and the review sit in one place when a dean or a parent asks who was in the building. Invigilation is not in that record.

Line drawing of an after-hours campus watch with a crossed-out exam hall, showing building, detect, card join, confirm, page and record.
The after-hours campus loop. Watch the building after it closes, detect, join the card when you have one, confirm, page and record. Facial recognition stays off. Exam halls stay out.

How it runs on your site

The appliance sits on the campus network. Gate, hostel and laboratory cameras stay on site. Events-only to the campus desk. Facial recognition is off. Air-gapped is supported where the DPO requires it.

Questions operators ask

Do you use facial recognition on students?
No. Facial recognition is off on this page and in the product. The camera reports a person in a zone. Access-control reports the card. We do not name a face.
Can you watch exam halls?
No. Invigilation stays with people and paper. We will not sell you an exam-hall pack.
Is a page a disciplinary charge?
No. A page is a still and a clock. A human writes any campus-wide warning or disciplinary file.
Where do student images live?
On the campus network, under the institution's DPO. Retention and access follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act. Only events, metadata and clips you consent to ever leave.
Can a student card join an event?
Yes, if campus access will take it. A card join is not a face search.
Does this replace campus security?
No. It sits on the cameras and doors you already run so a rover is not sent on a guess.
What we do not claim

We cannot infer crime or intent from a still. We will not run facial recognition on students or staff. We will not watch an exam hall or sell invigilation. A person in a closed building is a person in a closed building. You write the rest.
